You can totally PULL-OFF this 15-Minute facial!

Did you know that your skin is an ecosystem? Meaning, it has natural detox and rejuvenation processes that are meant to keep it looking healthy, glowing and youthful. If you’re constantly washing your face, using harsh chemicals or being exposed to pollutants every single day, these processes might get hampered. And since your skin is the biggest organ of your body, it can start to show signs of aging faster than our other systems do. That’s why a good facial is so key for keeping you youthful appearance longer! To help you get the most out of your next facewash routine (and make sure you don’t waste any time in between facewashes), we’ve put together this handy guide on 7 easy-to-follow tips for a perfect home facial.

## Don’t skip the cleanser

No matter what type of facial you’re having, you should always begin by cleansing. And if you’re using a home facial recipe, you can’t just skip this step. The reason is simple: Exfoliating your skin before you cleanse is like taking off a pair of sunglasses. You might see a clearer picture, but it’s not the entire picture. Thus, it’s important to remove any build-up from the day (i.e. dirt, excess oils, impurities, etc.) as well as any pilling from the last mask. If you skip this step, it’s like staring at your face through a blurry pair of glasses.

# Use a gentle exfoliator

If you’re going with the basic idea of exfoliating before you cleanse, you can go with a gentle option. As long as it’s not supposed to be used for skin types with sensitive or acne-prone skin, an exfoliator can be an incredibly helpful addition to your routine. Exfoliation is slightly different from an acid peel in that it doesn’t have the same long-term damaging effects.

To get the best results, always apply the exfoliating products on clean, damp skin. Some people like to use a cleanser to exfoliate (this is also a great tip to save some time), but you can also just go right out of the shower and pat your skin dry with a towel. For best results, go with a scrub that contains ingredients like coffee grounds and papaya enzymes.

## Match your mask to the type of skin you have

When you’re choosing your facial recipes, it’s especially important to match your mask to the type of skin you have. Yes, all masks can be used on all skin types. However, some mask types (e.g. clay, charcoal, etc.) are meant for oily skin, while others are best for dry or sensitive skin. If you have oily skin, try a clay mask. They work to draw excess oils out of your pores, leaving you with a clearer, more even-looking complexion.

If you have dry skin, go with a clay mask that’s been packed with hydrating herbs or oils. You can also try a clay mask that’s been infused with shea butter or aloe. For sensitive skin, try a peel-off mask like green tea or rose. These mask types are gentle enough to use on sensitive skin types, yet still have the ability to cleanse and exfoliate.

## Take a hot water rinse

Finally, you can’t skip the hot water rinse. That’s right. Not only is it an essential part of facewashing, but it’s also a great addition to any home facial recipe. The hot water rinse will open your pores, remove any excess dirt or impurities that were left behind, and also aid in blood flow.

To make the hot water rinse, simply fill a sink or basin with hot water and add one or two tablespoons of a natural, pH-balanced cleanser. You can also try adding a few drops of your favourite essential oil(s) if you have them. (Note: Always check the product label to make sure the product you’re using is safe for internal use.) You can also use a natural, Himalayan salt water spray.

## Drying time is crucial

As important as your cleanser is, the drying time is even more crucial. That’s because this is when your skin is actually detoxing (it has to be able to remove the impurities from your skin while your pores are still open).

To make sure the detoxing process happens while your skin is still free of impurities, always follow the drying time on your product. If it’s 10 minutes, 10 minutes your skin is going to continue to detox. Don’t rush it. Even if you’re in a hurry, take your time. Just remember, you’re not only exfoliating, but also detoxing.

## Be sure to seal with something light

When it comes to your finishing touches, make sure to seal them with something light. This will give your skin a bit of a pick-me-up, close your pores and help lock in the benefits from your cleanser and mask. Some people like to use a moisturizer. However, that can get a bit heavy.

Instead, try using a facial mask. These products (which are often lighter than moisturizers, but heavier than oils) are a great way to seal in the benefits from your facial and also leave your skin looking hydrated and refreshed.

## Bottom line

As you can see, a home facial isn’t just for women anymore. Now, it’s for anyone who wants to step up their skincare game and improve their skin’s health. And by using these tips, you can make your facewash routine even more effective.
